Radio WavesIn August, we received a generous donation from long time Population Connection member, Bill Foster. Bill was eager to help us with our radio project. Thank you, Bill! Through the summer, Spanish radio station La Preciosa (100.7 FM) played our population message about smaller families for a better quality of life. KDON (102.5 FM) played the message in English. Our public service announcements (PSAs), ran for four months for a total of 300-plus announcements. It is difficult to measure if we were successful, but we feel radio media is one of the best ways to get the population message out, and is worth doing. Potentially, hundreds of thousands of people heard our message; now they have to act. We hope so. Check out our web site at www.zpgmb.org; we now have the PSAs on mp3 files and you can listen to them on the internet. Jeremy Mathews offered to draw cartoons to go with our scripts in English and Spanish from our PSAs. We are using them as educational handouts at schools and public events. They are very popular, easy to understand, and fun to read. Thank you, Jeremy! Our plan is to continue with our radio project, starting next Spring. We hope to develop new story lines with a focus on the connection between overpopulation, carrying capacity, and the environment. Stay tuned!
