Who Are We?

Many people living today have seen the world’s population triple in their own lifetime. They see the increase in traffic, urban sprawl, use of agricultural land for housing, global warming, depletion of water resources, and species extinction as signs of severe population pressures. However, many people don’t understand that overpopulation is a grave threat to life.

Our chapter’s goal is to educate people about overpopulation. We locate public places and events where we can pass out literature and discuss this fundamental problem. Members frequently maintain a display table at the University of California Santa Cruz, and at Cabrillo College. We also staff booths at county, health, and environmental fairs, and participate in parades and other community gatherings. Some of us conduct speaking programs in public schools. Population Connection members are encouraged to write letters to newspaper editors. We visit our local legislators to see how they can help with conveying the urgency with which we need to lower our population numbers.
